About SIX.SI

SIX.SI is a peering infrastructure for the local exchange of IPv4 and IPv6 traffic among Internet service providers (ISPs), content providers and hosting providers. The peering infrastructure thus provides faster and more optimal traffic flow between SIX.SI members and can significantly shorten the traffic path between content provider and end users.

SIX.SI members (become a member) can connect to the SIX.SI at two locations in Ljubljana. Several Ethernet Port speeds are available. Each member may also connect to the SIX.SI by having aggregated (LACP 802.3ad) Gigabit Ethernet ports. Although we recommend that members connect to both SIX.SI locations to have full redundancy, a member can also connect to only one of the two locations.

The routing exchange between SIX.SI members relies on:

  • BGP peering between the SIX.SI member’s router and two SIX.SI route servers (SIX.SI route server 1 and SIX.SI route server 2), which are installed on two different servers to provide full redundancy;
    • BGP peering has to be established between SIX.SI member’s router and both(!) SIX.SI route servers following the condition: one connection to SIX.SI location = one SIX.SI member’  BGP router-id= BGP peering with both SIX.SI route servers;
    • if a SIX.SI member would like to have two separate connections to SIX.SI location(s) due to wishing full redundancy, then he has to provide at his side two routers – one for each connection (routers can be physical or virtual, following the condition: one router = one BGP router-id). By following the mentioned condition, SIX.SI member will then be able to establish BGP peering with both SIX.SI route servers via each connection;
  • Direct, bilateral BGP peering between two SIX.SI members.
